Todays metal detecting find was a Henry III penny (class 3) around 1247~1248 London mint, Moneyer Nicole. Henry III (1216-72), silver voided long cross Penny, class 3b (1247-48), London Mint, moneyer Nicole, facing crowned head, Latin legend and beaded borders surrounding both sides, commences at top, *hENRICVS REX. ANG, rev. long voided cross pommee, trio of pellets in each angle, NICOLE ON LON, weight 1.37g (N.987; S.1363). Lightly toned, a bold very fine. A very rare clear night this evening so brought out the Vaonis Vespera II and imaged the Veil Nebula and also tried out the Covalens to get a wider view of this complex region. Only a 10 minute attempt on a target set that requires at least 60 minutes to gather more nebulosity and detail. But for testing this proved very capable.

It has been a good couple of years alongside amazing company and have discovered some lovely finds. From a Bronze age socketed axe head dating to 1000BC through to 2nd/3rd Century Roman, on to pre-medieval all the way up to present day. Coins, spindle whorl’s, musketballs, a Roman fibula, buttons galore (inc several livery buttons), pocket watch winders, a partial crotal bell, buckles dating back to Roman. An absolutely amazing Christmas function last night with the metal detecting group Wolds Detecting. Our main aim is the support of Yorkshire Air Ambulance (YAA) and collectively raising monies together while having fun at the same time. Running well on software version 2.0, not tried it on 3.x as of yet. Really pleased with the AWK Cobweb from Pawel, really well built and quality parts. While it did take almost a full day to build, the antenna was light enough to single handedly lift 6ft high (to fix onto the antenna mast). While not at the perfect height, I have made contacts on all bands from 6m~40m and all tuned perfectly with the rig ATU. Results on data modes are encouraging (even though only 8ft above the patio at the moment).
