Nice bit of of metal detecting even though it started raining. Several sharp iron bits removed from the paddocks and now a lot safer for the gee gee’s. Also found a .303 bullet (unfired) – no associated shell casing though. A generic Tombac button was also uncovered. Star of the drizzly afternoon was a copper alloy 1920’s Girl Guides Enrolment (Promise) badge. J A Wylie & Co, London Reg no 671782.
Just received a detailed report from my local Finds Liaison Officer (FLO) on the Bronze Age socketed axe head found last year.
One of the best days detecting yet !!! Another couple of hammered coins (sadly both a bit bashed), possible medieval thimble, a broken handle of a silver spoon complete with hallmark, an old shilling and sixpence, a toasted penny, a possible Roman (but toasted), two more musketballs including a big one, something that looks like the hind leg of a toy horse, several buttons, a large watch winder, a bullet and a couple of casings and there was a wheelbarrow…
Very happy indeed with todays visit to Bridlington Gun Club. Coin is a 1p that is actually larger than the blue area – distance 25yds.
When you arrive at a field and take in the incredible view, you cannot wait to get the detector out and have a bash … Then the very first find I dug up a silver hammered coin with a VDI reading 61 / 62 using my very own modified detecting program aptly named “Chocco” !!
